Research Synopsis
In my PhD, I focus on different regulatory elements that govern bacterial gene expression at the mRNA level. I combine a recombinase-based DNA recorder with next-generation sequencing in Escherichia coli to characterize their underlying sequence-function relationship in ultra-high throughput. Furthermore, I want to capitalize on the resulting data to facilitate the rational design and straightforward implementation of such gene regulatory elements as reliable ‘genetic parts’ for the engineering of synthetic microbes.
